Confused? Demotivated? Get someone to look into your mirror
Yesterday, my wife and I were discussing the role we should play in each other's lives and came upon an interesting analogy - getting someone to look into your mirror. It is a simple parallel that can get someone to show us a different perspective that we might be missing. Here is how it goes.
When we see ourselves in the mirror, what we see may not really be a true reflection of ourselves. Over time, we tend to obsess over certain positive or negative aspects and ignore the rest. Do small blemishes, a slightly crooked nose, or other minor "defects" take up an inordinate amount of our attention? Are we so proud of our new haircut that we ignore the state of our teeth? We all have our soft spots and our blind spots that make us miss the bigger picture.
When someone close to us sees us in the mirror, they see a different person. They see beyond the carefully crafted Instagram-friendly visage and see the real us. They see a beautiful smile, kind eyes, and the grit to take on the world. Or the fear of the unknown under the garb of cockiness. Once we see ourselves through others' eyes, we can see the bigger picture and feel stronger to face the world with a renewed vigour.
Get someone to look into your mirror. What do they see that you do not?
